Time-in-force on Bitget in 2026: GTC, IOC, FOK and post only reviewed

Bitget lets you decide how long a limit order stays alive and whether it may fill partly or only as a maker. A practical review of each time-in-force option, when it helps and how to confirm what actually happened to your order.

Most people place a limit order on Bitget and never touch the small setting next to it. That setting, time-in-force, decides what happens if your order cannot fill right away: should it wait in the book, fill what it can and cancel the rest, fill completely or not at all, or refuse to execute against existing orders? The default suits many situations, but not all. In this review we walk through the options as they appear in 2026, with examples of when each one earns its place and what to look for in your order history afterwards.

Where the setting appears

On the spot or futures trading screen, select Limit as the order type. Near the price and amount fields, or behind an advanced or settings toggle, you will find the execution options. Bitget typically offers GTC, IOC, FOK and Post only. On mobile the labels may be shortened, and some options are only available for certain products. If you cannot see them, switch to the advanced order panel or check the Bitget help centre article on order types for the current layout.

GTC and post only: orders meant to wait

GTC, good till cancelled, leaves your order in the book until it fills or you cancel it. It is the default and fits most planned entries and exits. Post only adds a condition: if the order would match immediately against the book, Bitget cancels it instead of filling it as a taker. That makes it useful for traders who want maker fees, which you can compare with taker fees for your level on the Bitget fee page. The drawback is that in fast markets post only orders may be rejected repeatedly.

IOC and FOK: orders that must act now

IOC, immediate or cancel, fills whatever part it can at your price or better at once and cancels the remainder. It suits situations where you want to take available liquidity but refuse to chase. FOK, fill or kill, requires the whole quantity to fill immediately or nothing happens. It is handy when a partial fill would leave you with an awkward position size. Both behave like taker orders when they execute, so expect taker fees on any fill.

Verifying the result in your history

After using any of these options, open the order history and tap into the order. The status shows whether it was filled, partially filled or cancelled, and the detail lists each fill with its fee and maker or taker label. A cancelled IOC or post only order with no fills is not an error; it is the condition doing its job. Our view after testing: the options are clearly presented on the web, slightly hidden on mobile, and worth learning for anyone who trades more than occasionally.

Scenario checkpoint

  • Select Limit and locate the time-in-force options before placing your next order on Bitget.
  • Use Post only when you want maker fills and accept that the order may be cancelled.
  • Choose IOC or FOK when an order must act immediately and expect taker fees on any fill.
  • Check order history for status, fills and maker or taker labels after using each option.
